9. First Time Director: Post-Premiere Reality

November 16, 2010

Nothing like a dose of reality. . . Our performance needs work. Mistimed SFX cues, intermittent brain-freeze, glitches with the props and costumes. The setting’s foreign enough to most of the audience, that they’ll need a little introduction next time. Traffic-delays didn’t help. The second night’s show a great improvement, though not enough to impress the critics on hand. Another rehearsal tonight, more work behind the scenes before the third performance, but we’re going to make a good show of it. By the end of the run, we’ll have hit our stride.

Everything you say sounds so familiar. Nothing is perfect the first night. Congratulate yourself big time for how much you have done–it is a MAJOR accomplishment! Hope the final performance leaves you smiling.
