7. Second-time Playwright: Results and Rewards

May 23, 2011

When the awards were announced, I was in Mexico. I didn’t see the tally until I was back home. We ran in the middle of the pack in the Spring 2011 Fringe of Marin, but winning top honors isn’t–never was–the point.

I am immensely proud of the work we all did bringing the ideas and characters of “Candle, Rose” to the stage. The fulfillment of the idea, and the relationships forged along the way, the experiences gathered. . .those are the real value of the work.

Bay Area Theatre Critic’s Circle Awards were announced Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Meadowlands Assembly Hall at Dominican University. There was a four-way tie for Best Director 4th place including Steve North for “Candle Rose.” The Critic’s Circle also gave a Nomination Award to Byron Lambie for “Candle Rose.”

The People’s Choice Awards are the results of audience votes. “Candle Rose” by David Hirzel won 8th place for Best Play and 6th place for Best Director Steve North. The People’s Choice Award for Best Actress 5th place was a tie between Carolyn Grenier and Kathryn Daskal. Charles Grant won 7th place Best Actor for “Candle Rose.”

What’s next? “Sailor on Ice” hot off the presses mid-June.
