Fringe of Marin–New One-Act Plays for Spring 2012: Don’t Miss It!

April 16, 2012

The Fringe us upon us again!  Program One of the Spring 2012 Finge of Marin season opens with a strong performance by Flora Lynn Issacson, by turns raucous and poingnantly affecting, as she tries to find answers to “Dirty Questions.”  “Three Old Ladies Talk about Sex” (well, actually only one, the part written and performed by Carol Sheldon), one in a particularly moving way.  “All Gone” is the wishful thinking of a home-liposuction treatment gone wrong.

After the intermission, Melinda E. Lopez’s spoken-word performance piece gives us a jazz ensemble-backed “Recipe for Life.”  David Hirzel’s “A Chance Encounter” throws two long- and bitterly-parted former lovers together in an airport for a short, hot, and doomed-again affair.  Superbly acted by Crystal Nezgoda and C. Conrad Cady, directed by Jim Colgan.  Charlie Lerrigo brings us another skewed look at God, in “Noah, the Play.”  “The Gatekeeper” minds an unsual cemetery that all of us must visit at one time or another.

Another strong lineup for the Fringe of Marin, insightful and thought-provoking.  Only four performances of this lineup remaining, so don’t wait.  Saturdays April 21 and 28 @ 7:30 p.m., Sunday April 22 @ 2:00 p.m.  And don’t forget Program Two (not reviewed).
